To get staff squared away, you can copy the existing printer items, then change the targeting to match the desired staff accounts (i.e. Now you have printers deployed via GPP and set as default for all student accounts in a particular OU. On each printer item, configure it to be set as the default. Remember, you can also say 'NOT' and specify a group only staff is in. Maybe a security group that only students are in, for example. Use Item Level targeting to create a condition set targeting the desired OU as well as something to Target only student accounts. To accomplish this, I think you'll need 1 policy with all printers under User Configuration > Preferences > Control Panel Settings > Printers as "Create" or "Update" items. I was wondering if anyone else can share what they did for their school.perhaps some screenshots? Also how do you handle the staff person with the laptop that travels from school to school? I was thinking of just setting up the traveling staff to print to a common area (ie: lab) instead of the room they will be in. Only exceptions would be like lab or teachers lounge copiers that everyone in the school would get. In that gpo I would create all my printers that are needed for that school and then do item level targeting for each printer as needed. My thoughts were to create 5 gpo's for each school thats tied to each ou. This summer we are moving all of our machines to win 7. Currently all 5 of my schools have a seperarate OU in a/d. My district is a K-8 with roughly about 130 or so printers.(yes its crazy every room has a laser printer in there). Can any fellow spiceheads in the education field share some of their best practices for deploying printers via GP Preferences?
