Why should ms make an operating system that runs super fast on 4 year old hardware (mines 3 years old and I can still rn xp at a very usable rate when I tried it out)? The people spending $100 on an upgrade for xp home are going to have fairly new hardware (I have an evaluation edition of pro) and are going to run it plenty fast.

Linux is the only os that makes my pc feel slow (I’m sure it was gnome and kde bloat, but I haven’t tried xfce or icewm yet, I’m still waiting to here how well icepack plays with windows before I jepordize my windows installs). I’m running a pretty old pc (celeron 400 256 megs ram) and my pc feels plenty fast in 2k, and 98se and it did in be 5.03pe. The only crime the users are guilty of is believing that they are the problem and not demanding quality. We have the endless search for more profit to blame for this. As the consumers are being force-fed this BS-story that it’s all their own fault when things go wrong, it simply stays that way.Ĭomputers suck. Even a good OS is only half the solution.Ĭomputers, and the computer industry, are one of the least consumer-friendly businesses in the world. Yet, the only way they actually work as tools is if you have help from a geek or tech-head (or you are one yourself) to maintain them and wrangle them. It’s the computers that are stupid and useless. They aren’t as stupid and useless as they are made out to be. “Why is it that I bought this new computer, which is more than 100% faster than my last one, and I also have the newest Windows, but it seems like it is just as slow as, or slower than, my last computer?!?!”ĭon’t take general computer users’ needs and impressions lightly.

Like the moms and grandmothers and kids that call all day where I supported Kensington products. (12.30.I know more than a thing or two about users. This gives me the sensation of being an idiot and am now working out whether I should be learning 3ds.ġ.

I've spent three weeks using the wrong software for the project. I'm doing a project in Sketchup that I thought would be fast and easy, but I've had to invent workarounds for the so many situations (precision drafting, intersecting compound curves that need to be on tangents), and this 105MB project runs so slowly on a 4.0GHz 6-core Xeon / 4GB Quadro, (I think it's having made the curves with too many segments, too many textures) I realized that it's on the edge of becoming unusable.

Software, especially 3D modelling and rendering, plus the associated hardware, has changed so quickly in last four of five years that I think everyone has to check every other day how to use it. The Autodesk Knowledge Network is one of the best in house support sites. > And see on the page linked to above, a specific setup for OpenGL. I suspect the DirectX mode for viewports will work far better on the GTX. > The setup has preferences so as to always run in a particular mode, I should think this is a matter of experimentation as when the going gets tough- a lot of polygons/textures, a GTX980Ti will not be good in OpenGL. There are two ways to set DirectX as your rendering engine. You can run Viewport 2.0 using OpenGL, DirectX 11 or OpenGL Core Profile mode. should I be using open gl, direct x etc for viewports? at present it works well in all. Im 51 and been messing with pcs and grafix since the day pcs stepped into the home market. Not concerned about rendering animated scenes as the uni has a render farm etc. no probs at moment but i think that when my poly count gets higher it could become important. and wish to know the best settings to get the best overall performance and stability.

I realise this will have a simple answer but i am new to Maya as I have just started studying animation (1 year in). Hey all was wanting some advice for the best Maya settings for my pc rig.
